Sociology & Social Sciences Portfolio
Throughout my four years at DU, I have taken a variety of courses within the social sciences, ranging from 'Gender, Crime, and Punishment', to 'Psychology and Religion and Spiritual Practices'

I have included two pieces from the previously listed classes that I feel connected to, and hope to be able to incorporate the interest and teachings behind them into my future.
Course: SOCI 2701 Gender, Family, and Punishment
In this course we discussed the unfortunate reality for many youth individuals in the foster care system in the US. Specifically looking at the stories of those told in "Till the End of June: The Intimate Life of American Foster Care". Throughout the quarter we were to be working on a policy proposal that we feel is necessary in todays world. Mine is below.

I am sharing this because I feel it showcases my ability to critically analyze and articulate social issues, particularly those related to systemic racism and its impact on marginalized communities.

Course: ASEM 2454-1 Psychology of Religious and Spiritual Practices
As my advanced seminar, this course was primarily discussions and reflections but all were working towards the final Analytical Essay that did a deep dive into a sprititual or religious topic that was not discussed in class.
While I was enrolled in this class, I was also enrolled in my 200-hr yoga teaching certification class and was able to use firsthand experience and integrate the two teachings.

This assignment was challenging as it humbled me and exposed my own ignorance at times while I practice yoga (an Eastern tradition) in a Western context. I enjoyed the research and analysis of this piece and hope you do as well.
