Inspiration for RWP Prompt:
"How do different majors define creativity?"

During my junior year at DU, I enrolled in the Communications Capstone course, 'Communicating Compassion Through Empathy. As a communications major I ahve had the opportunity to take courses that are more practice than theory, and this was one of them.

The curriculum of the course revolved around the concept of grief and how in today's world we are being more sympathetic than empathetic. We addressed this problem and understood it personally through our 'Small Act Good Deed' project. In this quarter long assignment, I decided to focus it on my sister and her identity as a single mother. Through reflexive and reflective group work, drawing exercises, and a multimedia project, I learned more than any textbook would teach.

I am including this in my portfolio not only because it is relevant as to my RWP, how certain majors make room for creativity through non-traditional means. But because this class will be known as the most important and eye-opening course of my college experience. I will be walking away from Denver with the intention to include compassionate and empathetic measures and mindsets into my future profession and more because of COMN 3500.

Included in this section is my proposition paper for this course and the final project, which was made up of a video as well as a handwritten mental mapping of the project.
